BOTCHED means – to do it clumsily. In Bahasa, it would means sambil lewa. And what make it interesting to study what this word means – is because today, our government had been proven to make two botched actions.
1/ The JAC (Judiciary Appointment Commission)
2/ The 2009 Budget
Both actions coming from the same old man who will vanish from the Corridor of Power very shortly, and indeed he is trying very hard in this very short time to put his mark as a great leader.
We have seen Pak Lah hastily rushing this JAC bill to be tabled and passed in the Parliament, however, our newly retired Chief Judge wisely pointing out a very interesting scenario if the bill is passed. There will be a conflict of interest when two most highest positions to be appointed, namely Chief Judge and Ketua Hakim Malaya. This is because the potential candidates itself would be the members of the comission. Therefore, they need to be excluded during the process, however, if they are excluded, there will be no enough chorum to make the decision as per required by the bill itself. How clumsy the bill drawer is? And how clumsy the person who approve this bill to be tabled? Poor Malaysia….
Secondly, we have seen the world price for crude oil been decreased significantly. At the time of the Budget 2009 is tabled, the world price is somewhere around USD 135. And now, its price is around USD 45, which is around one third of the previous price. The interesting point is that, our beloved Prime Minister had tabled the budget on the forecast of the average crude price in 2009 at USD 125. He subsequently boosting the budget as People Budget, giving much many to people, mega projects and so on. And now with the crude price as low as USD 45 per barrel, we simply do not have the money to spend per what are budgeted. The blunder made by the PM is that he is keeping the 2009 forecast of crude price at USD 125. This is way too high even venezuela did only forecast at USD 60 in 2009. On top of that, even Vietnam who did the same blunder in its 2009 budget, did only forecast the average 2009 crude oil price at USD 90.
So the morale of the story, our PM is the foolest among PM of Venezuela and Vietnam.
